ISN´T IT ROMANTIC? by Richard Rodgers as played by Jimmy Raney

Recently, having a beer with a friend, we talked about how difficult it is bringing originality when playing standards in combo set. Specially when we play all together a horn player, guitarist and pianist. It is typical to play wonderful unisons horn and guitar while piano comps but there is something beyond!.
This album bears witness to this. Jimmy Raney is simply fantastic, as arranger and as guitar player, same as Bob Brookmeyer, great on trombone!.

COUNTERPOINT is the magic word!!!

I just wanted to share a transcription on the first track of the album, I hope you enjoy and get inspired and also encourages you to give a listening to the whole album, no waste!!!

Recentemente, tomando unha cervexa cun amigo, saliu na conversa a dificultade que ten dar orixinalidade a standards nun combo. Sobre todo cando neste estamos un pito, guitarra e piano. É típico recurrir aos maravillsos unísonos entre guitarra e vento, mentres piano acompaña, pero existe vida mais alá!.
Este álbum da boa fe delo, Jimmy Raney está simplemente fantástico, tanto como arranxista como guitarrista e Bob Brookmeyer: igualmente xenial no trombón!

CONTRAPUNTO  é a palabra máxica!!!
